New group

We had a group from Seaside Community Seventh Day Adventist Church came to Whisper Canyon. This is their first time to the camp. They were doing a coed scouting type program during the afternoon. Fire starting was one of the items they tried
I did take a picture of the water feature in the morning sunlight. I think it turned out pretty sweet.
It got somewhere near 88 deg.today. Being from Seaside, it was warmer than they are used to. They turned the water feature into a place to play red robin. The water made it more comfortable.
We are never quit sure how a group will like the camp. These folks settled right in and are having a good time.
They did not need my attention so I went and checked out the orchard. I was surprised to see that our apricot tree has a small amount of fruit on it that is almost ripe. I went and looked at the plum tree and it is loaded with fruit. It needs a few more days to ripen also.
Toni Shuma had helped us last fall with some pruning. I really did not expect much fruit. The lemon tree is just starting to blossom. It should produce nicely this year.

Couple more steps

Sean from Mount Hermon came by yesterday. Brought some mattresses for the bunk beds and supplies to work on the Zip line. The cabins are very nice now.

So here he is working the top of the pole. We still need some fall protection installed under the travel way. That will be the next step. We did get both poles guyed .
We are working on a water feature. Have some ideas for squirty sorts of devices. But they need to be ordered then installed . I went and bought a soaker hose and hung it in a tree where the ground is sandy . Still need to rake up some of the leaves and sticks, but can also add a standard lawn watering sprinkler on the ground.
It was 98 Deg today so I did enjoy a bit of a test. Here is my plan, wrap your kindle in saran wrap, grab a chair and have a cool time reading.
It does not show well but this hose sends water out about 5 feet either side of the hose. We have a group coming this weekend that can test it out for us. There is 50 ft of soaker hose in the air at this point. It will be easy to add to it if we think it is necessary. Maybe this winter we will call it our snow making machine. You know what they say on the Red Green show " if the women don't find you handsome , they will always find you handy"

Gopher proof vegatable pots

So I had already adjusted the main gate, it was sagging. Put a new handle on a scooping shovel I found in the shop, as well as split and stacked a bit more firewood. I need a little diversion.

So I went to the log pile and pulled out these 3 pieces from an 18" oak limb. I had brought some tomato seedlings from Santa Clara but was hesitant to put them in the ground.I don't like feeding gophers. Now I could have painted the fence, but that did not sound like fun. So I added a little sandy soil/ potting mix blend to the hole and placed them on some concrete stepping stones.
Gopher proof tomato pots
The bucket in the middle has my Rosemary in it.The bucket had rusted out so it will drain. so far so good on the bucket. I will let you know if the tomato plants like the pots as much as I do.

Work day and such

Here are some pictures of what has happened in the last week or so.
Winter is coming
Last weekend Oscar and some of the young men from Iglesia De Jesus Christo came up for a work day. They help bring 4 truck loads of wood to the staging area , and then started to split it.They also help shuffle the refrigerators at the pole barn and moved the row boats away from the shop.
The day before I had gone down into the canyon and bucked up a couple of limbs that had fallen last winter. Need to get it split up so it is dry enough to burn. This is one of the fun parts of caring for the camp.
Then today we had new bunk beds delivered. Mikhail brought his experienced delivery and installation crew with him.
As you can see, these are sturdy beds. We have added 2 of these to each cabin. The cabins are much more presentable with the paint and new flooring installed back in March, and now the beds.
Manny
Here is the neighbors buffalo on a good day. Actually it might be a bad day, I can't tell. Dan the owner tells us if the tail sticks up he is upset. So I guess this is a happy bison.

The holiday weekend Iglesia was here as a church.
It is fun watching how they get all the different age groups together for a rousing game of volley ball. They have been coming to Whisper Canyon for about 15 years, spring and fall.
